Sorry
Sorry about not updating lately. I have been so busy with school, and everything else. Here is a little recap
Friday night=
Melissa, Katie, Billy, Tim, Eric and I headed to Carrboro (near Chapel Hill) to a club called Cat's Cradle (it's more of a run down warehouse-looking building in a strip mall) and saw a Beatle's Tribute band called Abbey Road!! They were AWESOME!! more pictures coming soon-->click here
They played the entire Abbey Road album and then came back for more classics (ie. Sgt Pepper's Lonely Heart's CLub Band, Let it Be, Hey Jude, I am the Walrus, Blackbird) The best song in my opinion was Helter Skelter. They rocked that one like never before. It had three false endings. Katie and I finally started dancing by like the 5th song and NEVER stopped!! We had a blast!!
Saturday=
Heather and Melissa came down from Williamsburg for the weekend. We at at Bojangle's (Melissa's pick!) and then headed to Triangle Town Center to shop a little. I got a cute top at Hollister's and some shorts at Aeropostle. Heather and Melissa got some cute stuff too. Then we went to this very trendy restaurant: The Twisted Fork!! The food was really good, but the best part was the atmosphere.
Next we headed back to the mall to kill some time before Ice Skating. We went and tried on hideous prom dresses!! We had a great time.

Then we went to the IcePlex and skated around for about an hour. I love to ice skate. So much fun. And it wasn't too crowded which is great. After that, we met Tim and Katie at NC State (we got to go through a road block!!). We went to Krispey Kreme and got a dozen of donuts and then headed back to Campbell. We were exhusted by that time.

Snow Number 3
Well we woke up with delays all around us, but NO SNOW on the ground at all. But it didn't take long. It started snowing on my way to class around 9 am...at 11am the sidewalks were covered....at 11:30 there had to be at least three inches....at 12:30 we had 4 inches.....and before it was all over we had 6 inches. The forecast shows more snow on the way for us and rumors were that we could get up to a foot of this white stuff before the storm passes!!
My house
Listening to some Jars of Clay right now. I just can't get enough of these guys. I have never been into Christian rock. I must be like 10 years behind because Jars of Clay is growing on me!! Great songs. I am also getting into some dc Talk. They are too funny!!
Not much else going on around here. The Va girls are coming down here this weekend (weather permitting) and we are going ice skating. Stay tuned for those pictures!!

Rob Reiner: And now, a new feature on "Saturday Night", "What Melanie Ate." Melanie?
Thanks, Rob. Okay, I started the day with a store bought Krispy Kreme glazed donut. Then for lunch I had a slice of baked ham, some garlic mashed potatoes, sweet corn, some apple pie and a Dr. Pepper. I took a nap to avoid more eating. Then for dinner, I had a bowl of vegetable soup, pinapple tidbits, and a Dr. Pepper. I came back to the room and I finished up the two donuts I had left, ate a box of the candy hearts, but only the white, yellow and green ones, one truffle and a handful of Blue Corn Tostitos.
If you didn't recognize it, that is from the old SNL skit, "What Gilda Ate". Apparently my goal for tonight was to eat as much sugar as possible. It was crazy.
Well my weekend was awesome. Went to Altavist, Va to visit with my cousins. We had so much fun. Watched the classic movie "Animal House", went to Roanoke to the Market (which had the most beautiful flowers...Tulips are my new favorite flower. I decided that if my husband did something wrong, all he would have to do would be bring me a bunch of pink or yellow tulips, and he would betemporarily out of the dog house), had a wonderful lunch at Tavern on the Market, had great home-cooking all weekend (a wonderful change from the stuff they feed us here ::gag::), watched a few more movies (Finding Nemo, Lost in Translation, and Snatch [which I slept through because I got lost!]), and then church and chinese on Sunday. We had a lot of fun and I can't wait to go back again!!
Check out the pictures from this weekend way at the bottom
Back to the grind of things here at school now. No tests this week (fingers crossed) and not much due.

TGIF for real
I am so very happy this week is finally over. It's been a short, but semi-rough one. Took two tests (one of which I got a 100%, best of the girls in my CPR class!!! Now if I can apply that in a real-life situation will be the true test) So very ready to get out of here for the weekend. Lynchburg/ Altavista here I come!!
Next week looks a bit lighter than last week. And then it's midterms already. Can't believe it. That means only a semster and a half before graduation. Wow, time sure does fly when you're having fun (and even sometimes when you aren't).
Elton John is on The View today :-) It's been awhile since he's been on something like this and I hope that it turns out to be the first in a long series of TV appearences to promote "The Red Piano" (which I want to go and see in Las Vegas!!)
Have a GREAT weekend!!

I feel like Novalee
Novalee: THANK YOU GOD
Forney:Things go well?
Novalee: More than you know!
I made a wonderful discovery tonight....one that I will not share with everyone, but it was such a relief. Maybe for the first time in my life I am happy about this certain thing!

"Sanity calms, but madness is more interesting" **John Russell**
The only thing keeping me within the reaches of sanity right now is:
- Psalms 116
5The Lord is gracious and righteous; our God is full of compassion. 6The Lord protects the simplehearted; when I was in great need, HE saved me." - Psalms 142
7Set me free from my prison, that I may praise Your name - Theses chips:
- Having the song "The Heart of Every Girl" by Elton John in my possession.
"A man should control his life. Mine is controlling me" ~Rudolph Valentino~
My life right now:
A little out of control, brought on by the amount of tests in a row these past few weeks. This happens every once in awhile, and as Ecclesiastes 3:1 says,"There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under heaven." This feeling will pass, thank goodness!!
As I was looking for that verse I ran across this one:
"My love is radiant and ruddy, outstanding among ten thousand" Song of Songs 5:10
And one day, when God knows that we are both ready, I will meet my "radiant and ruddy" guy and we will live happily ever after (or so the fairy tale goes!!)
Random Quote of the night: "The man that sets out to carry a cat by it's tail learns something that will always be useful and which will never grow dim or doubtful." ~Mark Twain~
"You cannot control what happens to you, but you can control your attitude toward what happens to you, and in that, you will be mastering change rather than allowing it to master you." ~Brian Tracy~
"I cannot always control what goes on outside. But I can always control what goes on inside." ~Dr. Wayne W. Dyer~
"...Too often we try to choose and control things we cannot. Too seldom we choose to control what we can - our attitude." ~John Maxwell~
"You have no control over what the other guy does. You only have control over what you do." ~A. J. Kitt~ (you are probably thinking, duh, but doesn't that hit you hard when you see it written down??)

Elementary School fun
Go here and have fun with a childhood favorite--

I played:
Married to not telling ;-)
Will drive a black Jetta

I would make a great umpire
NOT. I was almost killed by a pop-fly yesterday at the baseball game. Melissa laughed at me the whole time because everytime a ball could pop back and hit the net, I would jump (we were sitting right behind the plate--first mistake). And then one actually came over the net and landed two feet from us in the bleachers. Not funny. Another one came over the net too, but landed a little bit farther away. Needless to say, Melissa laughed the whole time I was jumpy the whole game!!
Tomorrow we are going to go and pick up Courtny at the airport. Can't wait!! There will be welcome home signs and everything. People are going to think she has been away for years!! Fun times!!
Well I have to go and do lots and lots of work.

Acts 1:8
"But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be MY WITNESSES in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth"
Kudos to Bobby Labonte for publically displaying his faith at the Daytona 500.
I don't know if you watch NASCAR racing ever, but it's a big deal at my house. My parents even have season tickets to the two races at RIR (Richmond International Raceway). It's awesome that on of these, presumably toughok, maybe not Jeff Gordon, guys will promote The Passion of Christ on the hood of his car for the biggest race of the season.

Sad news for Mattel...
It's Splitsville for Barbie and Ken
Couple 'will remain friends,' says Mattel
Thursday, February 12, 2004 Posted: 7:35 PM EST (0035 GMT)
NEW YORK (AP) -- Just like J.Lo and Ben, the romance is over for Barbie and Ken.
After 43 years as one of the world's prettiest pairs, the perfect plastic couple is breaking up. The couple's "business manager," Russell Arons, vice president of marketing at Mattel, said that Barbie and Ken "feel it's time to spend some quality time -- apart."
"Like other celebrity couples, their Hollywood romance has come to an end," said Arons, who quickly added that the duo "will remain friends."
Arons denied that there was any truth to rumors that the breakup was linked to the Cali (as in California) Girl Barbie, arriving in stores now. To better reflect her single status, Cali Barbie will wear board shorts and a bikini top, metal hoop earrings, and have a deeper tan.
This new style already has attracted a new admirer, Blaine the Australian boogie boarder.
Barbie -- the most popular fashion doll in the world, according to toy maker Mattel -- met Ken on the set of a TV commercial in 1961, and they have been inseparable ever since.
Arons hinted Wednesday that the separation may be partially due to Ken's reluctance to getting married. All those bridal Barbie dolls in toy chests around the globe are really just examples of Barbie's wishful thinking, she explained.
Another possible factor is Barbie's career. The doll who was "born" Barbie Millicent Roberts in 1959 has been everything from a rock star to military medic, and she's currently marketed in more than 150 countries. According to Mattel, every second, three Barbie dolls are sold somewhere in the world.
So where does that leave Ken? Said Arons: "He will head for other waves."

Mr. Picassohead
Rainy day blues
Well I haven't made a substantial post in quite some time. I have been so so so busy these past few weeks. Every professor has decided to give tests now. But so far so good with the scores. They have all been A's except for my anatomy & physiology test, and an 89 on my philosophy test. But it's all good. I will just have to work harder on the a&p and use bigger words study a bit longer for philosophy.
Katie and I have been staying busy with the Mr. Picassohead computer program. It is so much fun. And a good outlet for how you are feeling at the time. I am in the computer lab right now, so I will post the link a bit later. I have made some neat ones for you to see and then I will post the link for the actual program so you can make your own.
Today in First Aid/CPR we learned how to use an AED (difibulator) on a victim. It is a neat tool to have aroundif you have a spare $3500 in high risk areas like pools and airports. All you have to do it listen to what the machine tells you to do. It analyzes the heartbeat and decides if it needs to be shocked or not. Pretty cool!
I'd like to send out a song for Valentines day---
I Love You by Celine Dion
I must be crazy now
Maybe I dream too much
But when I think of you
I long to feel your touch
To whisper in your ear
Words that are old as time
Words only you would hear
If only you were mine
I wish I could go back to the very first day I saw you
Should've made my move when you looked in my eyes
'Cause by now I know that you'd feel the way that I do
And I'd whisper these words as you'd lie here by my side
I love you, please say
You love me too, these three words
They could change our lives forever
And I promise you that we will always be together
Till the end of time
So today, I finally find the courage deep inside
Just to walk right up to your door
But my body can't move when I finally get to it
Just like a thousand times before
Then without a word he handed me this letter
Read I hope this finds the way into your heart, it said
I love you, please say
You love me too, these three words
They could change our lives forever
And I promise you that we will always be together
Till the end of time
Well maybe I, I need a little love yeah
And maybe I, I need a little care
And maybe I, maybe you, maybe you, maybe you
Oh you need somebody just to hold you
If you do, just reach out and I'll be there
I love you, please say
You love me too
Please say you love me too
Till the end of time
These three words
They could change our lives forever
And I promise you that we will always be together
Oh, I love you
Please say you love me too
Please please
Say you love me too
Till the end of time
My baby
Together, together, forever
Till the end of time
I love you
I will be your light
Shining bright
Shining through your eyes
My baby
I try not to think about the chances I might have missed in life, but Valentine's day always brings some up. Who knows if I have missed both boats and my helicopter (courtny and katie know what I am talking about). But I still stand firm on the fact that God's not finished with me yet. And only when He is ready to give me to my husband, will He cross our paths or make us realize just who that other person is.

Your mission, should you choose to accept it...
Today we had the School of Education Convocation. And the keynote speaker sounded like James Earl Jones to me. I felt like Simba when he and Mufasa were talking about his duties as a king.
It was pretty cool actually. Except sometimes I thought he was going to say "Luke, I AM your Father".

Try and keep the gloves above the belt next time...
You do not want to mess with this guy. This goes beyond your typical heckles at refs (ie. "huh, ref? you need glasses or something??" etc)

Gotta leave some things up to the imagination, I guess
40 Years of the Fab 4
40 years ago Saturday, 2-7, John, Paul, George and Ringo stepped onto American soil for the first time ever. They were greeted by tons of screaming fans.
40 years ago TODAY, the Beatles made thier first television appearence on the Ed Sullivan show. They performed: "All My Loving", "Till There Was You", "She Loves You", "I Saw Her Standing There" and "I Want to Hold Your Hand".
From the press conference:
Q: How many of you are bald, that you have to wear those wigs?
RINGO: All of us.
PAUL: I'm bald.
Q: You're bald?
JOHN: Oh, we're all bald, yeah.
PAUL: Don't tell anyone, please.
JOHN: And deaf and dumb, too.
Guess that hair-do was just too much for the times.

The best things/ happen when you're dancing...
Not that I did any dancing this weekend. ok maybe in the car some
This weekend was great!! Friday night I sat in Melissa's parking lot in the pouring rain (in my car of course) eating the BEST thing at Subway--the Chicken Bacon Ranch Wrap (carb free, of course)--tomatoes, lettuce, onions, chicken, bacon, cheese, honey mustard sauce and ranch dressing. YUMMY!
We were headed to Intervarsity, but Melissa got off work late so we just went to Uno's and played Scrabble. Melissa, Erica and I had a blast.
Saturday we had a baby shower for my best friend since 3rd grade, Crystal. We had it at church and it turned out wonderfully!. Check here for some pictures of the new mommy and shots of those who came to the shower. I even got to see her belly move. Laura commented: "She's going to be a soccer player!!" Well we'll have to just wait and see on that one!!
After that I took a nice, long nap and headed out to see "Miracle." What a great movie. Herb's wife didn't not take ANY crap from him. It was so funny! Quotable quote--"Yeah, we're had a little delay. We, umm, hit a moose on the fun way" ~Herb~
THEN--Melissa and I went a gave Heather and Adrien a little break from their painting job at Nationwide. Boy those were some strong paint fumes!! We had a blast. We ended up racing rolly chairs down the sidewalk in front of the office.
Now I am back at school and ready to take on the week. Two, possibly three, tests and I get to stay here next weekend--what a treat. First weekend in 5 weeks that I have stayed here!! Fun will be had by all (especially me when I sleep forever on Saturday!)
(OK, so I like the smiley's, sue me!)

How awesome....
This is one of the best pictures I have seen online ever---
This is an amazing witness to how important their new found faith is to these soldiers. In the midst of a war, these men find the time to follow Christ in baptism. Inspiring!!
Unrelated note--"Friends" was hillarious tonight. "paper...snow...a GHOST" ~Joey~

Hitch a ride....
Let me just tell you that the number one favorite thing for me to do in the afternoon is take a nap. I had a great one day!! One awesome dream, and one semi-disturbing/very weird one(H.E. it was about you)!!
"Dreaming permits each and every one of us to be quietly and safely insane every night of our lives" ~William Dement~
Song of the Day: Hitch a Ride by Boston
"Gonna hitch a ride
Head for the other side
Leave it all behind
Never change my mind
Gonna sail away
Sun lights another day
Freedom on my mind
Carry me away for the last time
Oh yeah"

Song of the Day: Hitch a Ride by Boston
"Gonna hitch a ride
Head for the other side
Leave it all behind
Never change my mind
Gonna sail away
Sun lights another day
Freedom on my mind
Carry me away for the last time
Oh yeah"
Sounds like a good idea to me!!

There are two explanations....
For some reason studying physio doesn't take me that long. Either
It's probably the later, which is NOT good. Test is in t minus 1 hr 45 mins.
And the bad thing is thatI skipped Ed/Psych Testing to study it's not just multiple choice, there is going to be a fill in the blank section too.
Bible study last night rocked. We talked about being free in Christ. Christ gives us a wonderful freedom from the bounds of sin when we accept Him. When faced with sin or hardtimes, we need to immediately give them up to God for Him to take care of. On one of my many trips to and from school in the past three months, I felt God telling me to turn the music off and talk to Him. It was almost an audible "Talk to me" like Uncle Jesse used to say when he answered the phone on Full House. So I did, and as I was giving up prayer requests, He would almost stop me mid-sentence and say "I'm taking care of it, Melanie"..."Yep, that one too!" It was so calming. Give it all to God and He will give you such a peace.
Something else that I really need to start employing is living in the here and now. With every "breath you take/ every move you make" you should say to yourself, "Is what I am doing RIGHT NOW glorifying God to the fullest?" What an amazing way to check yourself constantly. That is something I want to learn to do.
Working on a trip to Lynchburg soon to see some family!! Fingers crossed it works out this time. Fun times!!
- I know the material so well it doesn't take me too long to flip through it
or - I am skipping over the hard stuff I don't understand like I usually do

Dearly beloved...
What a great weekend!! Friday night we (Me, Melissa and Erica) went to Inter Varsity (IV) at William and Mary!! It was pretty awesome!! There was a large crowd there, which surprised me because it was a Friday night. Great music, great speaker and great fellowship!! Then we went out to dinner at Shacklefords. They have a wonderful grilled cheese by the way.
Saturday was a long one!! Laura and I went to Swem Library at WM to copy some articles I needed for Research Methods. They had these awesome condensed shelving which allows for thousands of more books to be kept in a small area. You have to push a button down and crank the shelves either way in order to go down the aisle you need. It was so neat. Oh and we had Cheese Shop for lunch--YUM!!
Next it was off to the wedding. Congrats to my cousin Andy and his new wife, Molly!! It was a beautiful wedding. We had a great table at the reception--Me, Kristina, her boyfriend, James, Laura, Mary Anna, mom and dad, and my mom's cousins Lyle and Phyllis and their daughter Emma. We were cracking jokes right and left that night!! A few pics from the wedding are up on my yahoo photos page. (It's the first one on the link list if you haven't been there before, check it out!!)
Then we went to see "Big Fish". What a strange, but moving movie!! I learned that your life depends on what you make of it. Dream big and you can make your life as interesting as you want it to be. Who cares, if you make the details a bit exaggerated, makes for a better story in the end!! Your life is only boring if you allow it to be. It had great props and scenary, which is something I pay attention to in every movie. If you are in the mood to open your mind and stretch your imagination, this is the movie for you!!
Song of the drive to Campbell: "All By Myself" by Celine Dion (no traffic, I was driving with cars way ahead and way behind for most of the trip!!)
Song of the night: "Dig a Pony" by the Beatles (random song, because I am in a random mood)
